Revolutionizing U.S. Traffic: Seoul Robotics Launches First LiDAR-Controlled Intersection in Utah

Seoul Robotics, a leader in 3D computer vision, is proud to announce the launch of the first U.S. intersection controlled by LiDAR technology at State Street and 5900 South in Murray, Utah. This groundbreaking effort, initiated with the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT), utilizes Seoul Robotics’ advanced 3D Perception Engine. The system, housed within a compact edge device, generates a digital twin of the intersection, optimizing traffic flow and reducing congestion.

The installation was achieved in collaboration with Gades Sales Company and Blue Band. Gades Sales Company managed the local implementation, while Blue Band’s software converted the data into signal commands compatible with existing traffic controllers. This partnership ensures the system can be adapted to widely used traffic controller models in the U.S., promoting broad applicability.

The system was installed in just four days, minimizing public disruption, and has been operating flawlessly since its launch in March 2024, now over three months. Future installations are expected to be completed in less than two working days.

Featuring advanced traffic management capabilities, the system provides precise stop-bar detection and vehicle detection up to 300 feet, boasting a 99.8% accuracy in vehicle counting at the stop bar. It also supports monitoring of red light running and plays a crucial role in safety by accurately counting and monitoring Vulnerable Road Users (VRUs), such as pedestrians and cyclists at crosswalks and curbsides. This data will help traffic engineers further develop and enhance intersections for the safety and convenience of VRUs.

Regarding the system's performance, Seoul Robotics' CEO commented, "Since its installation, our LiDAR-based traffic management system has consistently demonstrated excellent detection and tracking of objects, ensuring reliable performance across all weather conditions. This technology not only meets but exceeds the demands of modern traffic systems."

Seoul Robotics is actively seeking to expand its technology to other states and municipalities, inviting potential partners to explore how its innovative LiDAR solutions can revolutionize urban traffic management. This effort aims to alleviate congestion and improve commuting experiences in cities nationwide.
